When a personnel vacancy occurs, the appropriate supervisor and the city manager will conduct a joint review of the position. Each and every position that becomes available shall be reviewed to ensure that the guidelines, job description, and need is present prior to filling such vacancy. The most suitable individual for the position shall then be carefully chosen, after considering those from within the City organization.

PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER

The City of Ionia, Michigan is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Public Safety Officer.

Statement of Duties:
Public Safety Officers shall perform all the duties and responsibilities of the Police, Fire and Medical services for the city and assigned townships. Public Safety Officers are responsible for the prevention of crimes, preservation of public peace and order, apprehension of offenders, protection of persons and property under the laws of the City and State, protection of people and property from fire, and provide aid to people in medical emergencies.

Ionia Dial-A-Ride – Public Transportation Dispatcher

The City of Ionia Dial-A-Ride is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Transportation Dispatcher. This position is incidental with the potential of part-time or full-time. Duties include answering phone calls, utilizing scheduling and dispatch software to book and assign trips, utilizing AVL software, customer service, sale of fare products, record keeping on a computer, two-way radio communication with drivers, and other duties as assigned.

Position reports to the Director of Transportation. Requires graduation from high school or an equivalent, computer proficiency, and completion of a pre-employment drug test. Minimum of one year of dispatch experience preferred. Starting wage: $12.55/hr.; after five years: $17.02/hr. All compensation and fringe benefits in accordance with AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. In addition, appointment to this position on a permanent basis is contingent upon successful completion of the required probationary period. Ionia Dial-A-Ride – Public Transportation Driver

The City of Ionia Dial-A-Ride is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Transportation Driver. This position is incidental with the potential of part-time or full-time. Duties include operating a small bus, rider interaction, performing daily pre-trip/post-trip inspections, collection of fares, record keeping on a tablet, operating a hydraulic lift, mobility device securement, monitoring the activity and safety onboard the vehicle, two-way radio communication with dispatch and other drivers, and other duties as assigned.

Position reports to the Director of Transportation. Requires graduation from high school or an equivalent, possession of a Commercial Driver’s License with a Passenger endorsement, good driving record, and completion of a pre-employment drug test. Minimum of one year of driving experience preferred. Proficiency with computers preferred. Starting wage: $12.55 – 14.11/hr. depending on experience; after five years: $17.02/hr. All compensation and fringe benefits in accordance with AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. In addition, appointment to this position on a permanent basis is contingent upon successful completion of the required probationary period.
