[ARCHIVED] Press Release — Former City Clerk Mary Patrick appointed to City Council

Mary Patrick2

IONIA, Mich. – The City of Ionia is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Patrick to the Ionia City Council as a Ward 3 Councilmember. Patrick was appointed on Tuesday during a Special Council Meeting to fill the seat previously held by Councilmember Dawn Ketchum.

Patrick has lived in the city since 1981. She retired in 2018 after a 40-year career with the State of Michigan, where she held various positions that she said provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and responsibilities faced by government agencies. She also previously served as Ionia’s City Clerk for three years. In that role, she said she developed a strong appreciation for the inner workings of local government and the values that define the community.

“I was happy to raise my children here and have always valued the small-town values embodied in Ionia,” Patrick wrote in her letter of interest. “I would like to continue my involvement with the City of Ionia by representing Ward 3 on City Council."

Patrick will serve on the Ionia City Council for the remainder of the current term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2028.

The City welcomes Councilmember Patrick and looks forward to her contributions as she steps into this important role.
