Overview

The DDA consists of the City's Chief Executive Officer (Mayor or City Manager as defined by MCL 125.4201, Section 201(h)) and eight members appointed by the mayor. At least five of the eight members shall be persons having an interest in the DDA development district. Terms of office are four years.

The City of Ionia has a large Downtown Development Authority District that extends through the downtown and to the main commercial and industrial corridors of the City. View the DDA District Map (PDF) for reference.

The DDA is responsible for:

  • Acting as the planning body for future development in the DDA district
  • Developing plans for marketing the downtown and its businesses

Development Area Citizens Council

The Development Area Citizens Council (DACC) was established pursuant to the Recodified Tax Increment Financing Act, Public Act 57 of 2018, to represent the interests of residents within the designated Development Area of the Downtown Development Authority’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and Development Plan. The DACC serves in an advisory capacity on matters related to the TIF and Development Plan. 

The DACC shall consist of not fewer than nine members who are at least 18 years of age. All members must be residents of the Development Area (PDF) and are appointed by the City Council. The Development Area Citizens Council meets as needed during joint meetings with the Downtown Development Authority.
